An emerging group of lawmakers allied to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has encouraged him to maintain his hard-hitting stance against the government despite threats from some quarters pushing for his removal as ODM secretary general.

During a church service in Donholm on Sunday, August 24, 2025, members of the Kenya Mpya team, including Sifuna, Kitutu Chache MP Antony Kibagendi, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, urged the senator to stay firm in holding the government accountable.

Babu Owino, who hosted the team in his constituency, praised Sifuna’s bold approach in keeping the administration on edge. He remarked that while Sifuna once applied pressure equivalent to a goat’s syringe, he now uses one fit for a camel, symbolizing the intensified scrutiny he has placed on the government, which Owino insisted must continue.

“Tuko na super senator, Edwin Sifuna. Huyu ni chief injector; kitambo alikua anatumia sindano ya mbuzi, siku hizi anatumia sindano ya ngamia,” Babu Owino said.

He encouraged Sifuna to remain fearless and continue putting pressure on the administration.

On her part, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba challenged Sifuna to go even further. She urged him to abandon the camel syringe metaphor and instead adopt one equivalent to an elephant’s, symbolically pushing for even stronger opposition aimed at driving the government out of power.

“Super Senator Sifuna umeambiawa ununue syringe ya ngamia; tunataka ununue ile ya Ndovu uinject mpaka tusukume watu kwa zile maofisi wanatumia kutunyanyasa,” Wamuchomba stated.

Sifuna revealed that he and several outspoken lawmakers have been receiving threats from powerful quarters. However, he maintained that intimidation will not silence them from speaking against government wrongdoing.

“We will not keep quiet when things go wrong. Those who are plotting against us will not succeed. We are going through these things because we have refused to kneel to Nebuchadnezzar. We are the ones who have said that bad is bad. We are the ones who have said we are ready to die for the things we believe in. As leaders who lead God’s creatures, we cannot see things going wrong in our nation and then remain silent just because we will be cowards,” Sifuna said.
