Detectives are pursuing a gang that robbed a Chinese national of her Sh1.4 million moments after she had withdrawn the same from a bank in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

The woman told police she had withdrawn the cash from Equity Bank in Kitengela and asked for a taxi to take her to the Lukenya area in Machakos when the incident happened on September 29, 2025.

As the woman rode in the taxi with the cash, a salon car blocked the driver near the Shalom interchange area, and two occupants who alighted told him they were police officers.

The attackers, who were in civilian attire, then bundled him out of the car before he was abandoned a few meters ahead in the 4 pm incident.

The driver said the gang drove in his taxi with the woman who they robbed of the cash and abandoned her.

The woman works at Seven Sunday Manufacturing as a financial controller. She had withdrawn the cash for use at the firm.

The driver told police he realized the attackers had not taken away his mobile phone and he was able to make calls for help.

Police said they were pursuing the gang behind the incident. This is the latest such incident to happen where people are attacked after leaving banks with cash.

Police say there is usually collusion between some bank staff and the thugs behind the incidents. Some of the incidents have in the past been solved by arresting the gangs involved.

Elsewhere in Makongeni, Nairobi, a gang riding on a motorcycle attacked a play station shop and escaped with a machine, laptop before injuring a woman.

The gang escaped with the play station machine soon after the incident on September 29 at night.

The injured woman was rushed to hospital in stable condition.
