Prime Cabinet Secretary (PSC) Musalia Mudavadi has called for urgent coordinated investment in the fight against climate change if the planetโs future is to be secured.
Mudavadi said that climate resilience requires urgent funding of key sectors ranging from infrastructure and energy security to food systems, health and education.
โWe must build climate smart food systems, future proof our infrastructure and unlock resilient financing that drives transformative change across the globe,โ he said.
Mudavadi who is also the Foreign Affairs minister said this yesterday when he represented President William Ruto at the Global Center for Adaptation (GCA) high-level meeting in New York, the United States of America.
An African Adaptation Acceleration Programme (AAAP 2.0) was launched during the function with the sole purpose of scaling climate adaptation solutions.
The PCS said that climate change was a reality for Millions of Africans whose impact had destroyed livelihoods and reversed hard earned development gains.
He said: โFrom rising sea levels to prolonged droughts and erratic rainfall the impact continue to devastate many communies in the continent.โ
Mudavadi revealed that Kenya looses nearly 40 per cent of its agriculture output annually to devastating climate change explaining that the country experienced three major droughts in 2008-2011, 2016-2017 and 2021-2023.
