The forward has already netted two goals for Kenya Police since signing from Sofapaka and then playing a key role in Kenya’s dream run to the quater finals at CHAN 2024.

Kenya Police coach Ettiene Ndayiragije believes new signing Edward Omondi ‘Ondimo’ could become one of the country’s most influential players in the future following his rapid start to life with the Law Enforcers.

Ondimo, who signed for Police from Sofapaka, was one of Kenya’s brightest stars at the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN) which the country co-hosted in August.

He netted his maiden goal for the club during the CECAFA Kagame Cup championships, before adding another goal during their 3-1 win over Mogadishu City during their First Preliminary Round first leg clash at Nyayo Stadium.

Speaking to Pulse Sports after the game, Ndayiragije, who led Police to their first ever league title, waxed lyrical of the Dandora-Born forward.

“He is a player I followed for a while at Sofapaka and is very talented. I have not trained with him. I only had a look at him at the CECAFA championships, and the only thing affecting him is the fact he still has to fully gel with his teammates,” Ndayiragije said.

“He has a lot more to give and we still have not yet seen his full potential in my opinion. He is very talented, and if we harness his growth, he could end up becoming one of the best players not just at the club, but in the country”

Edward ‘Omondi’ Ondimo.

The 21-year-old was in fine form last season scoring nine goals and providing six assists after signing from the now-defunct Rainbow FC, establishing himself as a fan favourite this campaign.

At CHAN 2024, he made three appearances against Angola, Morocco and Madagascar.

For Omondi, the challenge is now one of consistency. Young players often burn bright and fade, but his mix of physical presence — standing tall at 1.85m — and hunger for goals suggests a forward built for the long haul.

If he continues developing his chemistry with teammates and adds tactical sharpness to his natural flair, there may be no ceiling to his growth.

From Dandora’s open fields to CHAN 2024 and now continental football with Kenya Police, Edward Omondi’s story is still being written.

But if his early chapters are anything to go by, Kenya may just be watching the rise of its next great football hero.
