Kenyans are still coming to terms with the death of former Rongo Member of Parliament Dalmas Otieno.

The former lawmaker passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the age of 80.
Initial reports indicated that the veteran politician died at his lavish Kileleshwa home in Nairobi.

Other reports suggested that he had been receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Nairobi before his death.
Otieno, who served as Rongo MP between 1988 and 1991, later held several ministerial positions, including Labour and Resource Development, Transport, and State for Public Service in the grand coalition government.

His death has left Rongo residents deeply shaken. Videos seen by TUKO.co.ke captured crowds of mourners gathering at his lavish rural mansion in Kangweso village, Rongo constituency.
They could be seen holding banners, and others wailing and crying.
In one of the clips, emotional voices could be heard saying:
Amid the grief, many Kenyans were left in awe of the politician’s imposing mansion.
The two-storey house, painted white with a red tiled roof, sits on a vast compound with manicured lawns, cabro pavements, and trees that give it a serene green backdrop.
Clips of the home quickly went viral, with many Kenyans online expressing admiration for the stately residence while sending condolences to his family.

President Ruto hailed the former Rongo MP as a leader who served the country with honour and integrity.
He further described him as a progressive and industrious statesman whose contribution left a mark on the nation.
