The legal team for Sean “Diddy” Combs is requesting that the music mogul be sentenced to no more than 14 months in prison, a term that would allow him to be released almost immediately. In a new legal submission to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs’s defense attorneys argue that their client has been “adequately punished” by already serving a year in what they describe as a “notorious” and “inhumane” detention center.

Combs, 55, was found guilty of two prostitution-related charges following his high-profile trial this summer but was acquitted of more serious sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges. He has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024 and is scheduled for sentencing on October 3.

The defense’s submission provides a grim account of Combs’s time at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, New York. They claim the facility’s conditions are “inhumane,” citing instances where food allegedly contained maggots. The document also states that Combs has been subjected to violence and has “not breathed fresh air in nearly 13 months.” In one instance, a call with his legal team was reportedly cut short due to a stabbing incident that led to a multi-day lockdown.

The lawyers also detailed the devastating personal and professional consequences Combs has faced since his arrest. They stated that his career and reputation have been destroyed, forcing him to lay off more than 100 employees. Furthermore, the legal filing claims that his seven children have suffered “devastating consequences,” including the loss of business opportunities in acting, television, and fashion.

Combs’s defense highlighted his conduct during his incarceration, noting that he has maintained an “incident-free record” and has become sober “for the first time in 25 years.” They also noted that he created an educational program on business management for other inmates.

Given these factors and the punishment he has already endured, the defense team argued that it is time for Combs “to go home to his family, so he can continue his treatment and try to make the most of the next chapter of his extraordinary life.”
