Eastleigh High School is a county public boysโ€™ secondary school located in the heart of Nairobi County.ย  The school was founded in 1952 as Racecourse Secondary School to serve the Asian community in Nairobiโ€™s Pangani and Park Road areas.

To accommodate growing enrolment, the school was relocated to Eastleigh, with construction completed in December 1955. It opened its doors on January 16, 1956, and was officially renamed Eastleigh Secondary School on October 6, 1956, by Mr. W.J.D., the Director of Education. Wadley.

The school initially admitted 510 boys and offered the Cambridge Overseas School Certificate, with facilities including science labs, a lecture theatre, and specialized rooms for art, history, and geography.

Between 1957 and 1960, the school underwent significant expansion, adding a library, metalwork and woodwork workshops, and additional classrooms to support both academic and practical training.

By 1965, the school had five streams and 635 students, with rising numbers of African pupils and staff following Kenyaโ€™s independence in 1963. The school remained an โ€˜Oโ€™ level institution until 1981, when it was granted โ€˜Aโ€™ level status. This milestone led to an official name change to Eastleigh High School on September 14, 1983.

In 1994, under the 8-4-4 system and government cost-sharing policy, parents financed the construction of a new library and staffroom block.

Today, Eastleigh High School serves approximately 850 students with a teaching staff of 54, offering a broad curriculum that includes sciences, technical subjects, and humanities. Despite financial and infrastructural challenges, the school remains active, particularly in sports, and continues to nurture talent in a diverse and dynamic environment. Notable alumni include musician King Kaka.

The government has previously issued a directive to all institutions regarding the total fees parents should pay per year.

The total annual fees per student at Eastleigh High School are approximately Ksh40,535, which serves as the fee cap set by the Ministry of Education for extra-county and county schools in Kenya.

However, the total fees may vary from school to school due to additional expenses introduced by respective institutions, such as uniforms, motivation fees, and extra activities.

The learning institution is located in Eastleigh, Kamukunji Constituency.
