Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has criticized residents of the Mt. Kenya region for what he described as ungratefulness toward the government, despite receiving a significant share of cabinet slots and other top government appointments.
Speaking during a church service at ACK Mayori in Mbeere South Constituency, Mundigi said it was unfortunate that the vote-rich region had chosen to repay this goodwill by popularizing the โOne Termโ and โRuto Must Goโ slogans โ despite benefiting from eight Cabinet Secretary positions.
He dismissed the slogans as empty rhetoric and accused Mt. Kenya leaders of political mischief.
The senator expressed confidence that President William Ruto would win a second term in 2027, asserting that the majority of regions โ including Western, Nyanza, Coast, Rift Valley, and North Eastern โ were still firmly behind him.
โIt is only in Mt. Kenya where we are having a challenge,โ Mundigi said.
He defended President Rutoโs track record, pointing to efforts to stabilize the economy, launch development projects across the country, and create employment opportunities both locally and abroad.
Mundigi also took a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, comparing him to a โjilted loverโ and accusing him of trying to isolate the Mt. Kenya region from the government out of bitterness following his impeachment.
He warned Mt. Kenya East residents against aligning with their western counterparts in opposing the administration, arguing that the East had long been marginalized but was now beginning to see progress under President Ruto.
โThose from the West who want us to follow them already have an elaborate tarmac road network, water projects, and electricity connectivity โ unlike us here in the East,โ he said.
Mundigi called for unity and continued support for the government, saying this would ensure more equitable development across the entire Mt. Kenya region.
