Nairobi, September 21, 2025 โ€“ Equity Bank has once again stamped its dominance in the banking sectorโ€™s sporting arena, clinching the overall title at the 2025 Interbank Games for the third year running.

โ€ŽKenya Commercial Bank (KCB) followed in second place with 6 golds, 9 silvers, and 4 bronzes. This marks the 12th time Equity has emerged overall winner since the Games were launched.

โ€ŽKenya Bankers Association (KBA) CEO Raimond Molenje hailed Equityโ€™s performance and praised all participants.

โ€Ž โ€œThese Games are about more than medals; they represent unity, networking, and camaraderie in the industry,โ€ he said, thanking bank CEOs and partners for their involvement.

โ€ŽEquity Bank Kenya Managing Director Moses Nyabanda attributed the win to teamwork and resilience.

โ€Žโ€œThis three-peat is a reflection of our athletes, coaches, and staff. The 20 medals weโ€™ve secured underscore our commitment to excellence,โ€ Nyabanda said.

โ€ŽHe hinted that sports success could soon be tied to staff Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), adding that the bank plans to expand support for athletics and integrate recognition programs for top performers.

โ€ŽNyabanda, who also secured third place in the CEOsโ€™ 100m sprint, emphasized the role of sports in enhancing staff wellness and brand visibility.

โ€Žโ€œThe energy and passion weโ€™ve seen this year is just the beginning,โ€ he noted.

Equityโ€™s strength was evident across more than 20 sports, including basketball, athletics, swimming, chess, darts, scrabble, and table tennis.

โ€ŽNotable victories included an 11-0 win against Access Bank in football, a 32-2 netball triumph over Caritas, and an unbeaten 22-game run in chess.

The bankโ€™s sports portfolio extends beyond the Games. It currently sponsors six teams in national leagues, with athletes representing Kenya in volleyball, basketball, and chess at continental level. Nyabanda announced plans to increase that number to at least 10 teams.

To celebrate the achievement, Equity hosted a dinner at Safari Park Hotel, where captains, coaches, and administrators pledged to strengthen the bankโ€™s sports culture.

โ€œThis win is more than a trophy; itโ€™s a symbol of teamwork, discipline, and passion,โ€ said Sports Coordinator Nick Ongeri.

The Interbank Games, organized by the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) with support from partners, brought together professionals from more than 40 banks competing in over 20 disciplines.
