Faith Kipyegon Reveals the Surprising Condition That Could Push Her to the Marathon

Faith Kipyegon has insisted she will keep dominating the 1500m, revealing the one scenario that could push her toward the marathon.

Four-time world 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon is not moving away from the 1500m anytime soon, as she revealed the only reason that might force that switch.

Faith Kipyegon is inarguably the greatest 1500m runner of all time, thanks to her impressive resume over the distance.

She has broken the 1500m world record three times, with the first time being at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence in 2023, where she clocked 3:49.11.

Faith Kipyegon then broke the world record again at the Diamond League Meeting in Paris in 2024, clocking 3:49.04 to win the race. The Kenyan recently broke the world record at the 2025 edition of the Prefontaine Classic.

She has also won four world titles over the distance, in 2017, 2022, 2023 and 2025 and three Olympic gold medals, in 2016, 2021 and 2024.

Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after winning a gold medal in the womenโ€™s 1500m and silver in the 5000m in Tokyo, Faith Kipyegon explained that at the moment, she still wants to continue inspiring youngsters.

She noted that the only thing that would force her to switch to the marathon would be if someone beats her in the 1500m.

Faith Kipyegon added that it is her success in the 1500m that has motivated the likes of Beatrice Chebet to follow their dreams, and she will continue doing that for as long as it takes.

โ€œAt the moment, I will not say anything; I donโ€™t know when I will. Maybe if somebody beats me over the 1500m, I will move to the marathon. At the moment, I will still keep on dreaming big to inspire the next generation, inspire women,โ€ Faith Kipyegon said.

โ€œAs Beatrice Chebet said, she is my younger sister and she watched me when I was winning a medal in the junior category, and now she is here and running very good. Going to Tokyo, I knew she was strong in the 10,000m and 5000m.โ€

She added that the 2025 edition of the World Athletics Championships has been one for the books, with women making history by winning gold medals from the 800m to the marathon.

She added that next year, she might skip the Commonwealth Games, but it is something she will think about. Faith Kipyegon pointed out that if an opportunity arises, she will be more than glad to represent Kenya.

โ€œThis has been a good one, coming home with seven gold medals, which was really special. I have gold medals in the Commonwealth Games, so I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll be participating there next year, but we shall see what comes up,โ€ Faith Kipyegon revealed.

Faith Kipyegon is now looking to end her season at Athlos, Alexis Ohanianโ€™s women-only event scheduled for October 10, 2025.
