Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malalah has come out guns blazing and slammed the government for leading the country to the trenches due to rotten leadership.
Speaking in Malava during the burial ceremony of celebrated teacher Dr Enock Andanje in Manda-Shivanga, Malalah wasted no time in slamming Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Musalia Mudavadi and Speaker Moses Wetang’ula who were in attendance.
Malalah took issue with the government’s approach to health care where he said many Kenyans were suffering due to the shambolic Social Health Authority (SHA) rollout.
He cited rising complaints from Kenyans that they could not get medical treatment since the SHA was not fully functionally and where it was working, it has very little support in terms of the amount of money deducted to offset bills.
At the same time, he hit out at the government for embezzling SHA funds, non-remittal and payouts to nonexistent and questionable health facilities while denying bonafide ones their funds.
He reminded the national government that the healthcare in the country was on its deathbed as patients do not get drugs in many hospitals.
He referred to health facilities in Kakamega county like Malava Hospital where there is a grave shortage of drugs.
He lamented that some major hospitals had disrupted their daily and normal activities leave for mortuaries, eliciting deafening chants from the mourners.
While receiving a thunderous reception from the mourners, Malalah continued to slam the government and accused it for lopsided distribution of development projects.
He slammed Mudavadi and Wetang’ula in their faces accusing them of being aloof and doing ‘nothing’ in lobbying and mobilizing for development projects to be directed to the Mulembe nation.
He accused the duo of sleeping on their jobs and lacking in leadership to steer the region into prosperity and called on them to step out of the way and let youthful leaders like himself to take over the mantle.
Malalah urged Wetang’ula to lead in the war on corruption in Parliament saying he had been thrown under the bus by the President.
Despite his microphone being switched off, Malalah pulled out his own microphone connected to his sound system and continued addressing the residents to their delight.
He challenged Wetang’ula to mention those MPs who are said to be leading in corruption or he will be the one to bear responsibility.
At the same time, he urged the locals to support the DCP party candidate Edgar Busiega in the upcoming by-election.
On his part, Busiega promised to take a leading role in ensuring that the road network in the constituency is well taken care of.
He said he will immediately start lobbying for the maintenance of the busy roads and their upgrade in order to ease transportation especially for sugar cane farmers who lose most of their produce due to the bad conditions of the roads.
Moreover, he said as a practicing lawyer in good standing, he will ensure he protects the wellbeing of the locals by taking an active role in drafting beneficial bills, following up, reviving and implementing neglected ones.
On health, he said he has a blueprint on how to operationalize health facilities from dispensaries to the biggest ones in the constituency.
