Kisii Town authorities have arrested five suspects in a major crackdown on a suspected drug trafficking syndicate, seizing cannabis valued at approximately Ksh.2 million and counterfeit alcoholic beverages.

The operation, conducted Friday morning by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in collaboration with a specialised police unit, targeted multiple locations linked to a network believed to be running large-scale narcotics operations.

Among those apprehended is the wife of Geoffrey Nyabira, a fugitive facing ongoing drug trafficking charges at Kisii Law Courts. Nyabira reportedly escaped during the raid but remains under active pursuit.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa described him as a repeat offender who had resumed illegal activities despite pending charges. Sales records recovered from his residence allegedly indicate that, hours before the raid, Nyabira supplied cannabis worth more than Ksh.1 million to distributors.

โ€œLet this be a warning to all drug dealers: NACADA will not relent. We are pursuing Nyabira and his entire network with every resource at our disposal. No stone will be left unturned until this poison is eradicated from our communities,โ€ Omerikwa said.

Police also confiscated counterfeit alcoholic beverages from a wines and spirits outlet linked to Nyabira, suggesting multiple streams of illicit business.

The arrested suspects are being held at Nyanchwa Police Station and are expected to be charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act. Authorities have indicated that further arrests may follow as investigations continue.
