Gengetone artist Shalkido, best known for the catchphrase โ€œShalkido mi huspin na mayeng,โ€ has been involved in an accident that has left him in critical condition.

The news of Shalkidoโ€™s accident was first shared by media personality Oga Obinna, who revealed that the former Sailors Gang member had been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

โ€œShalkido is critical in the hospital. Apparently, he had an accident today early morning. Will update on what happened, where, how, and why. Na tuliwachana vizuri today morning. Keep him in your prayers kindly,โ€ Obinna said.

However, Obinna did not disclose the cause of the accident, where it occurred, or the severity of Shalkidoโ€™s condition.

This comes nearly a month afterย the Ni Tekenye hitmaker revealed that he was struggling financially and appealed for help.

The young artist shared that he had reached his breaking point as a father, explaining that he had tried several hustles but none had worked out.

He posted a photo of his modest living conditions, saying he would be grateful for a motorbike to start a boda boda business and support his family.

His plea touched many Kenyans, including comedian Eric Omondi, who used donations from fans under his Sisi Kwa Sisiย initiative to buy Shalkido a new motorbike.

Eric later shared a video of himself unwrapping the motorbike and officially handing it over to the struggling singer.

In an exclusive interview, Shalkido admitted that poor financial literacy during the peak of his fame was a major factor that contributed to his downfall.

While popular radio host Mwalimu Rachel secured the group well-paying gigs at the time, Sailors Gang assumed that money would keep flowing endlessly and did not plan for the future.

When the group eventually split, Shalkido was left struggling financially. He tried almost every hustle to support his young family, from riding boda bodas to working on construction jobs, but none of them worked out for him.

The musician recalled a tough moment when he told his wife to return to her motherโ€™s place and decided to leave their house after constant conflicts with the caretaker.

โ€œI just left and I only had KSh 80 with me. I boarded a matatu and decided that whichever town I alighted at, I would start a new life there. I wonโ€™t say which town it was, but when I got there, I looked for a job as a watchman,โ€ he recounted.

โ€œUnfortunately, it didnโ€™t last because the employer accused me of trying to get close to his wife. He chased me away with the mattress and bedding you saw me with, and I decided enough was enough.โ€

The artist added that long before this incident, he had even attempted to end his life several times, once by drinking poison and another time by throwing himself onto a busy road from a footbridge.

Obinna not only helped him settle in a fully furnished house but also supported him in securing an ambassadorial deal.

During his show, Obinna personally gifted Shalkido essential household items. A brand-new sofa, a comfortable bed mattress, and a plush carpet were presented to the artist.
