Gor Mahia is set to face KCB FC today in a high-stakes Kenyan Premier League match that pits Gor’s recently revived attack against KCB’s famously strong defense, led by veteran coach Robert Matano.

After a slow start, Gor Mahia found their winning form thanks to new Ghanaian signing Ebenezer Adukwam, who scored two fantastic goals in their last game, providing the much-needed firepower.

However, they will need to break down a KCB side that has conceded only one goal in three games this season, reflecting Matano’s focus on a winning, defensive mindset.

With both teams eyeing a jump up the table before the FIFA international break, football fans are expecting a very tight, tactical battle, a trend that is common in this close rivalry.

The famous Gor Mahia, who hold a record 21 KPL titles, finally found their scoring touch last weekend.

They defeated Sofapaka 2-0, thanks to a superb performance from their new Ghanaian forward, Ebenezer Adukwam.

The 24-year-old striker scored both goals in his debut, proving to be the firepower Gor Mahia desperately needed after a slow start, which included a 1-0 loss to Bidco United.

His first goal came from a corner, while his second was a stunning, powerful shot from far out that has been called an early “goal of the season” contender.

Gor Mahia’s coach, Charles Akonnor, and his team have been focused on improving their finishing, especially after the Bidco defeat, where they controlled the game but couldn’t score.

Midfielder Enock Morrison admitted, “We dominated but lacked composure up front,” but he credits the coach’s recent training for the improvement.

The arrival of Adukwam is a huge boost, especially after the earlier departure of top striker Benson Omala.

The team knows they must continue this attacking form as they try to climb higher from their current mid-table spot.

KCB FC, currently third on the table with six points, is not an easy opponent.

They started their campaign with solid wins: a 2-0 victory against Tusker FC and a 1-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks.

Their strength comes from their coach, Robert Matano, known as ‘The Lion.’

Matano is famous for building teams with a winning mentality and strong defense, having won the KPL title four times with two different clubs, including Tusker FC.

KCB’s defense has been excellent, letting in only one goal in three games.

This strong start gives the team confidence that they can challenge for their first-ever league title this season.

Young creative midfielder Tyron Kariuki, a promising Kenya U20 player, praised his coach, calling Matano a “father figure” who has helped him improve his game.

The team hopes to use their solid defense and home advantage at Dandora to grab a statement win against the league giants.

The rivalry between KCB and Gor Mahia has traditionally been very close and cautious.

Since 2019, the two sides have played 13 times, resulting in four wins for Gor Mahia, three for KCB, and six draws.

Crucially, the matches are often low-scoring, with the last seven league meetings featuring very few goals.

With both teams performing well at the start of the 2025/2026 season—Gor Mahia finding their attack and KCB showing great defense—today’s match is expected to be another tight “chess game” of tactics.

The result is key for both clubs, as a win would launch either team toward the top of the table heading into the upcoming FIFA international window.

Gor Mahia will need Adukwam’s new spark to break down Matano’s sturdy defense if they want to secure the three points.
