Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika used the consultative meeting held in Naivasha to highlight her scorecard for the Naivasha Subcounty.
The Governor spoke during theย consultative session with opinion leaders and residents from five wards of Naivasha at Civic House in Naivasha Town.
The meeting, which was attended by leaders from Nakuru County, provided a platform to reflect on progress in project implementation and to openly discuss areas that require improvement.
Kihika highlighted major development projects completed and underway in Naivasha Sub-County.
In the education sector, she revealed that a total of Sh57.95 million in bursaries was disbursed to 12,899 students this year, with 14 learners receiving full scholarships.
She added that the fortified porridge program currently benefits 8,661 ECDE pupils, adding that her administration is constructing new Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).
In health, Kihika revealed that Maai Mahiu Level 4 Hospital is 50 percent complete while the ICU/HDU facility at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital is 96 percent complete, with plans to expand ICU bed capacity from 2 to 10.
โWe are also equipping the Outpatient Unit to ease congestion. Several dispensaries are under construction, including Munyu Dispensary, which is 65 percent complete. A container is being fabricated in Olkaria to serve as the temporary Kamere Dispensary, as we continue the search for land to build a permanent facility,โ she said.
In addition, funds have been allocated for the recruitment of additional healthcare workers.
She encouraged residents to register under the Social Health Authority (SHA) to help reduce out-of-pocket hospital expenses.
On matters agriculture, Governor Kihika was categorical that over 182,000 animals have been vaccinated and 13,547 artificially inseminated.
That farmers have received support in the form of poultry and avocado seedlings.
Through the Wezesha Fund, Sh2.4 million was disbursed to local groups in Naivashaย including Area 7 Self-Help Group and Good Luck Self-Help Group.
โWe have also launched a Sh30 million Boda Boda Fund to help young people acquire motorcycles on affordable terms,โ she said.
Kihika who assured the resident dthat her focus is on service delivery pointed out that Market upgrades are ongoing in Viwandani, Old Kijabe, Ndabibi, and Kinungi, while work has resumed at Karai Fish Market.
She revealed that her administration has completed and operationalized the Naivasha Modern Market and are rehabilitating fish bandas at Kamere Beach.
To improve access to clean water, Kihika pointed out that already laid 181.5 km of water pipelines, drilled nine boreholes, and constructed water storage tanks and kiosks.
Kihikaโs administration is also expanding sewerage coverage in Naivasha Town to enhance sanitation.
Meanwhile, Physical land use plans are being developed for Kongoni, Kamere, and Lower Lakeview.
In infrastructure, tarmacked 6 km of roads in Naivasha Town, graded 182 km, and graveled 96 km of roads.
โWe are improving roads access under the Imarisha Barabara program in the Sub County. In addition, we have constructed 18 market sheds, installed high-mast and street lights in Naivasha Town, and built boda boda sheds. Bridges and culverts are also being constructed to enhance connectivity,โ she said.
In sports and youth empowerment, Governor Kihika said her administration has constructed and rehabilitated social halls, stadiums, and established youth empowerment centres.
She added that the Governorโs Cup, featuring various sports disciplines from across the County, will be launched in October.
Governor Kihika also highlighted on projects that are being imemented through collaboration with National Government.
โThe National Government, under President William Ruto, is constructing 1,054 housing units near Buffalo Mall, and 2,000 units in Karagita under the Affordable Housing Programme. Additional national projects include modern markets in Naivasha Town and Maai Mahiu, and the upcoming dualling of the RironiโMau Summit Highway, which will significantly boost the countyโs economy,โ she said.
The event was attended by MPs Samuel Arama, Irene Njoki, Liza Chelule, Paul Chebor, Joseph Tonui, and David Gikaria, CECs John Kihagi and Stephen Kuria and MCAs among other guests.
