Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has reiterated her commitment towards improving healthcare services in various Subcounties of Nakuru.

Speaking in Subukia on Saturday during Opinion Leadersโ€™ consultative meeting, Kihika was categorical that since she took over leadership mantle in Nakuru her commitment on healthcare remains key.

She highlighted some of the key projects initiated towards the same in Subukia.

To improve and expand healthcare services, Kihika informed the people of Subukia that she has completed the new Subukia Level 4 Hospital and allocated Sh52 million for external infrastructure.

She added that her administration has renovated the old hospital wing at the Level 4 Hospital at a cost of Sh3 million.

Other health facilities that have been renovated include Wei, Edgewood, Tachasis, Kirima, and Lower Solai.

The Governor added that her administration will hire more health workers this year to enhance services in hospitals.

โ€œWe have ensured an uninterrupted supply of medicines in all hospitals,โ€ she stated.

During the meeting, Kihika presented her half-term scorecard to opinion leaders and residents of Subukia Sub-county and explored new initiatives to fast-track implementation of development projects aimed at the socio-economic transformation of the areaโ€™s residents.

The meeting was hosted by area MP Samuel Gachobe at St Johnโ€™s Catholic Church in Subukia Town and was also attended by other Nakuru County MPs.

In education, Kihikaโ€™s administration has issued Sh22.87 million as bursaries to 5,966 students in the Sub-county.

Eleven needy students are currently on full scholarships, while 3,110 learners in ECDEs are benefiting from fortified porridge under our Uji Program.

โ€œWe have constructed 6 ECDE classrooms and 7 toilets, in addition to providing age-appropriate furniture,โ€ she stated.

Kihikaโ€™s administration also continues to provide Sh30,000 in capitation to learners in Vocational Training Centres, among them Subukia and Ndungiri VTCs.

To enhance agriculture as the main income earner, Kihika revealed that her administration has vaccinated 5,991 animals and inseminated 7,468 cows under subsidized AI services.

A distribution of 51,493 avocado seedlings to 3,765 farmers, 3,115,351 pyrethrum seedlings to 650 farmers, and a total of 15,250 fish fingerlings to dams and ponds operated by Subukia Uwezo Widow Women Group and three stores established to help in last-minute distribution of subsidized fertilizer to farmers.

In trade, through the County Enterprise Fund and County Cooperative Revolving Development Fund, the County Government has issued a loan of Sh5 million to Suka Farmers Cooperative Society, while Suka Sacco will soon receive a loan of Sh4.8 million.

โ€œWe have initiated a Sh30 million Boda Boda Fund to offer loans on affordable terms to our boda boda operators. We have constructed 4-door toilets at Kanyotu, Symboiyon, and Polepole markets,โ€ she said.

On land matters, Kihika revealed that her administration is processing title deeds for residents in Kabazi, Subukia, and Waseges Wards.

There is also the construction of an ultra-modern market in Subukia Town which is now at 59 percent completion.

In water provision, the County Government has increased access to clean water in Subukia Sub-county from 5.1 percent to 33 percent by drilling 14 boreholes, equipping and solarizing 11 boreholes, piping 32.2 kms of water projects, and constructing 7 concrete storage tanks now serving 27,250 new residents.

Some of the key projects include Gatongu, Ngenda, Mwireri, Arahuka, Gitura, Suswa, Kihoto, Kiremba, Kipongoch, and Kamwohi, while Baharini Dam in Waseges has been restored.

To ease transport, the Governor revealed that the County has graded 91.6 km of roads, graveled 58.5 km, constructed three bridges, installed 23 streetlights, and built 4 boda boda sheds.

Notable projects include the Kamemoโ€“Kirimaโ€“Kahigaโ€“Tetuโ€“Kihengeroโ€“Munandaโ€“Sidai Road and a 24-metre span footbridge at Kavililia.

โ€œWe will open new roads and continue grading and gravelling more roads after the rains subside,โ€ assured Kihika.

In sports and youth empowerment, the County Government recently distributed assorted empowerment and sports equipment worth Sh96 million, including PA systems, construction equipment, posho mills, beauty products, tents, and chairs.

Last year, the County invested Sh27.5 million in sports development across 55 wards.

Kihika also announced that by the end of the month, she will launch the Governorโ€™s Cup, a countywide tournament featuring multiple sporting disciplines.

Meanwhile, the National Government, under President William Ruto, is constructing a 580-bed hostel at Subukia TTI at a cost of Sh200 million and will in October begin the dualling of the Rironiโ€“Mau Summit Highway, 80 percent of which is in Nakuru.

The meeting in Subukia was also attended by MPs Irene Njoki, Samuel Arama, David Gikaria, Liza Chelule, Joseph Tonui, Paul Chebor, and Alfred Mutai; MCAs Isabella Makori, Elijah Murage, and George Talam and other County officials.
