Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku was recognized as one of Kenyaโs top five governors, drawing praise for his transformative initiatives in education, healthcare, and community development.
At the forefront of his achievements is the Mbuzi Moja Afya Bora program, which allows pastoralists to exchange goats for NHIF coverage, with proceeds supporting student bursaries. The initiative has expanded bursary coverage from 3,000 to 11,000 beneficiaries, highlighting Lenkuโs commitment to improving access to education for vulnerable communities.
In healthcare, Lenku has overseen the development of 227 health facilities, including the Level 5 Kajiado County Referral Hospital with a renal unit serving 500 patients, five functional dialysis machines, and a new ultra-modern outpatient facility integrated with national healthcare services. Remote areas such as Mosiro have also benefited from newly inaugurated dispensaries.
Social media users and residents have praised Lenkuโs participatory and community-driven approach, emphasizing how his leadership has enhanced local livelihoods and strengthened public services.
Governor Lenkuโs tenure continues to set a benchmark for effective governance, demonstrating the potential of devolved government to transform communities through innovation and strategic development.
