Harambee Stars players have revealed that they are still waiting for the KSh1 million cash reward promised by celebrity couple Bahati and Diana Marua following their 1-0 victory against Morocco in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) Group A clash.
The highly publicized promise was made before the crucial tie, with Bahati assuring fans that he and Diana would deliver the cash at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, should Kenya secure a win. The Stars went on to stun Morocco, but over a week later, no payment has been made.
The players, however, confirmed that all pledges made earlier by President William Ruto had been honored in full. This has raised questions among fans and sports stakeholders about celebrity promises to the national team.
โFinancial support from leaders and well-wishers is always appreciated, but unfulfilled promises demoralize players,โ a team representative told reporters.
This is not the first time Harambee Stars have faced issues with pledged rewards. In the past, similar promises have either been delayed or quietly forgotten. Bahati and Diana, both known for their flamboyant lifestyle and public philanthropy, are now under pressure to clarify the matter.
The couple has not yet issued an official statement on why the funds have not been delivered.
Despite the controversy, the national team remains focused on preparing for their upcoming quarter-final clash against Madagascar. Fans continue to rally behind the squad, urging stakeholders to offer genuine and timely support.
