I knew my wife was the one for me the moment I fell in love with her. She was compassionate, encouraging, and all I could have hoped for in a companion. Her father was the only issue. He made it plain that he did not want me near his daughter from the moment we first met. He said that his daughter deserved a guy of greater rank and that I didn’t come from a wealthy household.  

Whenever I went to their house, he would always find an excuse to yell at me or eject me from the premises. He even threatened to disown his daughter if she persisted in wanting to wed me at one point. The circumstances were intolerable. Due to her father’s relentless pressure, my fiancée sobbed nearly every night. His resistance was destroying our great love for one another.
