How Makini School-Cambridge is steadily climbing the ladder of excellence #AD
Ms. Jackline Aminga โ€“ Executive Principal, Makini School Cambridge.

Makini School-Cambridge has firmly established itself as one of leading learning institutions, with ambitions to dominate the league table of the countryโ€™s top international schools.

As a โ€œpure Cambridgeโ€ school, Makini is aligned entirely to Cambridge International Assessment as opposed to using the British Curriculum, Pearson Edexcel, or a hybrid model.

โ€œCambridge International qualifications are recognized and valued both locally and globally, preparing graduates to join leading universities anywhere in the world,โ€ said Kelsey Keech, Makini Academics Director.

Strong Performance in 2024โ€“2025 IGCSE Results

Makini school registered impressive results in the 2024-2025 International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) producing top achievers while maintaining its commitment to academic excellence.

โ€œAs Makini we are proud to highlight the 2024โ€“2025 IGCSE results, which show significant improvement in both quality grades and overall achievement,โ€ said Keech.

Makini Cambridge presented its first IGCSE class in 2023 with 48 students and strong results. The cohort doubled in 2024, and after a slight dip, performance rebounded in 2025 with marked improvements in both A*โ€“C and A*โ€“A rates.

โ€œIn 2025, the school recorded a significant rise in top grades in line with our 2025 academic plan focused on moving more students to the top while reducing the performance gap. Our goal remains to increase the overall number of top grades each year,โ€ said Keech.

Makini Schoolโ€™s philosophy is anchored on the belief that every student deserves their best outcome โ€” regardless of entry level.

โ€œNo matter how low the entry point, we provide the necessary support to help students thrive and achieve their aspirations,โ€ said Aminga. โ€œWe admit children who may not speak English or Kiswahili, or who begin at a lower academic point, because we believe every student can achieve success with the right support. Of course, parental involvement is critical to making this possible. โ€œadded Aminga

A Supportive Academic Environment

Now in its fifth year of growth, Makini Cambridge continues to thrive academically and in co-curricular activities while instilling key learner attributes: confidence, responsibility, reflection, innovation, and engagement.

โ€œThrough structured teacher training, strong parental support, continuous feedback, and our membership in the Kenya Association of International Schools, we have built a culture of progress and opportunity,โ€ said Aminga. โ€œIn just five years, we have opened access to international education for thousands of children, empowering them to adapt, thrive, and positively impact their families and wider society.โ€

The school holds itself accountable for every learnerโ€™s progress, closely tracking teacher impact on student well-being and academic outcomes. With a structured teacher training policy and a strong focus on professional growth, Makini ensures its academic provision continues on an upward trajectory.

Empowering Teachers, Strengthening Learning

As part of the ADvTECH Group, Africaโ€™s leading private education provider, Makini Cambridge benefits from powerful support structures that strengthen learning.

โ€œThis includes access to ADvTECHโ€™s Central Academic Team, which develops self-paced online courses, delivers targeted training, and conducts regular academic audits to inform continuous improvement,โ€ Aminga explained.

Educators also enroll in Cambridge subject-specific training to deepen their expertise, while top-performing teachers are recognised and rewarded. โ€œAn Academics Director works closely with leadership and staff to enhance teaching and learning, ensuring every student receives tailored support according to their needs,โ€ she added.

Award-Winning Co-Curricular Programme

Holistic learning is at the core of Makiniโ€™s approach. The schoolโ€™s robust co-curricular programme provides students with diverse opportunities to discover and develop their talents.

โ€œMany of our learners participated in sports such as basketball, chess, table tennis, and netball, while others excelled in performing arts, Model United Nations, the World Scholars Cup, and art. This is clear evidence that our school is about helping students achieve their aspirations,โ€ added Keech.

Executive Principal Ms.Jackline Aminga highlighted that the school has been recognised at the Great Places to School Awards as the Best School in Extra-Curricular Activities for two consecutive years, and the 2025 First Runner-Up in Global Competence.

โ€œThese achievements affirm our commitment to making school both enriching and enjoyable. From sports to international competitions, even our youngest learners access age-appropriate opportunities beyond academics, ensuring every child experience the holistic Makini journey,โ€ Aminga said.

Makini School Cambridge is steadily climbing the ladder of excellence, with academic and co-curricular achievements that reflect its vision: to deliver international education of the highest quality, accessible to more families, and transformative for every learner.
