A Nairobi school watchman who has been allegedly defiling a 12 year old pupil will have to raise Sh300,000 bond to secure freedom during trial for defilement.

Joshua Owino, 66, a watchman at The Christ Hope Kenya in Mathare, Nairobi, is facing charges of defilement in contravention of section 8(1) as read with section 8 (2) of the Sexual Offences Act (SOA) of 2006.

Heโ€™s said to have had defiled the minor severally before she informed a teacher.

The latest incident occurred on August 2 at the a school operated by a non for profit organisation in Mathare, Nairobi where the minor schools and where the suspect, Joshua Owino works as a watchman.

On the day the unfortunate matter was discovered, Owino had allegedly sent the minor to buy him sweets outside and when she returned, he asked her to get into a room behind the schoolโ€™s kitchen.

The suspect is said to have closed the room immediately the survivor stepped inside to deliver the sweets he had sent her to buy. Owino is said to have undressed the minor as usual and defiled her.

The suspect allegedly stopped the incident midway after the minor complained of pains and almost raised an alarm.

He let her go and warned her not to tell anyone threatening to kill her if she disclosed the ordeal to anyone.

The child confided in her teacher a few days later, sharing how this had happened to her severally and she was escorted to the Medisen San Frontiers (MSF) hospital along Junja road where she was examined and treated before the matter was reported to the police. Owino was arrested and arraigned at the Makadara law courts where he denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Beatrice Kimemia.

He was released on a bond of Sh300,000. The case will be mentioned on August 26 before the hearing starts on December 10.
