The three robbery suspects in the dock at the Makadara law courts.

Three criminal suspects allegedly robbed a bodaboda rider of a mobile phone and assorted auto parts at Donholm area along Outering Road after the rider declined to buy them bhang are facing charges of violent robbery.

The three suspects are Dennis Oino Otieno, Dominic Musyoka Muturi and Rodgers Wafula who are now battling the capital offence of robbery with violence contrary to section 295 as read with section 296 (2) punishable with death sentence only.

They are accused of robbing Joseph Kivuva Kioko who had stopped due to a mechanical problem on his bike.

Kioko was confronted by five men who demanded money for bhang before any negotiations at the scene.

The men including one armed with a knife robbed Kioko of the mobile phone Sh13,500, four side mirrors and two โ€“ five litre jerricans of a coolant valued at Sh4000 and Sh5600 respectively on August 19, 2025. Otieno, Wafula and Muturi were arraigned at the Makadara law courts.

They are accused of threatening to use actual violence on the complainant during the alleged robbery but Kioko grabbed Wafula before he fled the scene.

One of the other suspects returned to rescue Wafula but was nabbed by a motorcycle rider who had stopped to rescue Kioko.

The third suspect was arrested by an unidentified state security officer and the three were apprehended to the nearby Savannah police post.

Otieno, who is among the suspects arrested at the scene during the alleged robbery was allegedly found with Kiokoโ€™s phone and is now facing a charge of handling stolen property contrary to section 322 (1) (2) of the Penal Code.

โ€œOn August 19, 2025 at Donholm area within Nairobi County, otherwise than in the course of robbery, dishonestly received or retained one mobile phone (belonging to Kioko) knowing or having reasons to believe it to be stolen property,โ€ stated the charge against Otieno.

The three suspects denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu. They were released on a bond of Sh200,000 without an option of a cash bail.

Kioko had picked a parcel at an auto spare parts shop along Kirinyaga road to drop in Kariobangi but had a customer headed to Cabanas area along Mombasa Road.

He later used North Airport Road and connected to Outering road to proceed to Kariobangi to drop the parcel at around 6pm.

However, Kioko noticed his motorbike was leaking oil and stopped to check the problem.

While examining his motorcycle, five men arrived at the scene and allegedly confronted him demanding money to buy bhang. They robbed him of everything but he acted swiftly to recover his property.

The two accomplices escaped with the items as only the phone was recovered allegedly from one of the suspects.

The case against the three will be mentioned on September 14.
