Losing a phone can happen under many circumstances, often leading to the loss of a SIM card as well.

In some cases, a Safaricom SIM card may also get misplaced if it was removed to use another line, especially in single-SIM phones.

If your Safaricom line (SIM card) is lost or stolen, blocking it immediately is crucial to prevent unauthorized use, including fraud, identity theft, or misuse of your airtime and M-PESA.

Taking this step helps protect your personal information, linked bank accounts, and overall financial security.

This article explains the steps to block a lost or stolen Safaricom line, including the methods you can use to do so.

The most secure way to block your Safaricom line if it is lost or stolen is to contact Safaricomโ€™s customer care immediately. You can do this by calling 100 from a Safaricom line (free of charge) or 0722 002100 from another network (standard rates apply).

When you reach an agent, report that your Safaricom line has been lost or stolen. The customer care representative will then ask you to provide verification details such as your full name, ID or passport number, and the affected phone number.

Once your identity is confirmed, the agent will block the line on the spot, preventing any further unauthorized use.

For in-person assistance, you can visit any Safaricom retail shop.

Once your line is blocked, you can get a new SIM with your original phone number and M-Pesa details. Visit a Safaricom Shop with your ID to get a replacement.

After getting a new SIM card, the line will be reactivated upon your request.

During the SIM card replacement process, the agent will require you to confirm your ownership. You may be asked to provide details such as:

Once verified, the agent will process the SIM swap. Your lost number will be transferred to the new SIM card, and a replacement fee of Ksh 100 may apply.

After the replacement, youโ€™ll need to reactivate your M-PESA account, and your funds will remain intact throughout the process.
