In the spirit of innovation and convenience, many Kenyans are discovering new ways to make the most of their mobile resources. One striking example is the rise of mobile apps that allow users to convert airtime into cash, providing instant liquidity when it is most needed.

Last year, we explored the top apps that serve this purposeโ€”converting airtime into cash. However, in recent months, I have received numerous comments suggesting that some of the platforms we reviewed have either become obsolete, costly, or prone to delays.

As of September 2025, according to Google Play Store analytics and user reviews, converting airtime into cash has now become easier for those in need of quick funds, thanks to a service called CredoPesa, which is leading the charge.

Designed for Safaricom and Airtel subscribers, the app addresses a very practical concern: what happens when you have plenty of airtime but urgently need cash? Through CredoPesa, users can transfer their airtime and receive about 70 per cent of its value in cash, with the remaining 30 per cent going towards conversion fees.

1. Download the app: Install CredoPesa from the Google Play Store. 2. Choose the conversion option: Log in, go to the menu, and select โ€œConvert Airtime to Cash.โ€ 3. Enter details: Input the airtime amount and the mobile number linked to your M-Pesa account. Check carefully for accuracy. 4. Confirm and convert: Follow the prompts to complete the transaction. The cash will arrive in your M-Pesa account within minutes. 5. Give thanks: As the funds arrive, offer a moment of gratitude for the blessing of technology and opportunity.

This innovation fits within a broader national transformation. A 2025 study by the Central Bank of Kenya found that over 45 per cent of banks are already developing artificial intelligence tools to remain competitive. Apps like CredoPesa appear to ride the same wave, blending AI-powered efficiency with the countryโ€™s push towards a responsible digital economy, as outlined in the governmentโ€™s 2025 Digital Economy Strategy.

For everyday Kenyans, however, the value lies in simplicity. Converting airtime to cash can mean the difference between solving an urgent expense and waiting helplessly. In this way, technology serves the people, giving them control over their resources in real time.
