Huawei TowerXchange Africa 2025

Huawei took center stage at TowerXchange Africa 2025 in Nairobi, reaffirming its leadership in driving the energy transition for the telecommunications industry.

The premier summit, co-hosted with ITW Africa and Datacloud Africa, brought together tower companies, mobile network operators, investors, and infrastructure innovators to shape Africaโ€™s next-generation connectivity and energy infrastructure strategy.

In a keynote titled โ€œAccelerating Energy Transition to Intelligence for Towercos,โ€ Muhammad Shariq Ansari, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei Site Energy MEA, underscored the urgent need for reliable and resilient networks to bridge the digital divide, particularly in underserved rural areas. He called on operators and tower companies to embrace AI-driven operational efficiency to reduce costs, enhance performance, and accelerate deploymentโ€”key priorities echoed across the TowerXchange agenda.

โ€œAfricaโ€™s digital future depends on resilient networks powered by intelligent, sustainable energy solutions,โ€ said Ansari. โ€œBy combining operational efficiency with AI-driven innovation, Huawei is helping operators reduce costs, improve performance, and connect more communities faster.โ€

Huawei spotlighted its deployment of high-quality lithium-ion batteries that ensure uninterrupted power availability while improving safety, reliability, and sustainability at telecom sites. Ansari also introduced L.I.G.H.T, a new Huawei framework designed to guide tower companies through intelligent digital transformation and unlock new revenue opportunities.

The session further showcased Huaweiโ€™s collaboration with Vodacom Group. Liren Naidoo, Executive Head: Group Access Networks at Vodacom, presented the โ€œSlim and Helical Pile Tower,โ€ a co-developed solution already piloted in Mozambique. The design lowers total cost of ownership, accelerates rollout, and shortens time-to-marketโ€”supporting digital inclusion across Africa.

โ€œOur partnership with Huawei is helping us reimagine infrastructure to make connectivity more accessible and affordable,โ€ said Naidoo.

Huawei and Vodacomโ€™s joint presence at TowerXchange Africa 2025 reaffirmed their shared vision: to enable Africaโ€™s digital transformation through advanced, intelligent energy solutions and innovative infrastructure that deliver efficient, sustainable, and future-ready networks.
