The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Ntimaru Police Station, who attended Jukwaa la Usalama meeting in Migori County on September 11, 2025 while drunk attempted to convince the Interior cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen that he had caught some cold flu dismissing claims that he was not sober.
Daniel Muchiri, following his short lived lies, was subjected to alcohol blow test later which showed that he was highly intoxicated.
He was arrested at the Migori Teachers Training College during jukwaa la Usalama forum where he was then taken to Migori County hospital where he was checked before being booked at Suna East police station and held for a couple of hours
The Sub-County police commander Samwel Boit according to a local publication confirmed his release as he awaits for disciplinary action.
This was after he attended the security engagement forum presided over by Murkomen while in drunken stupor. What caught the attention of the CS Was that the OCS seemed to be in agreement with everything that was being said and discussed.
With the urge to know why the officer conducted himself in a manner that was contrary to the rest, he directed that the officer be handed over the mic and give his views.
Muchiri, in a widely circulated video on the social media, articulately seemed to struggle introducing himself and the station he was commanding. He started by saying that the challenge they face in the area was the rift between the Kipsigis and and the Kuria communities.
While being asked whether they experience problems with alcoholism and what they do as law enforcers, he affirm that being at the border town, there is a challenge of the incoming booze from Tanzania as well as the locally breed alcohol.
He humorously wondered why the CS Chose him. “I don’t know why you selected me; but that is the issue. I request that you add us more officers,” he said amidst laughter.
Murkomen pressed further, inquiring how he handled alcoholism if he was drunk in such an event. The CS wondered if the officers including the OCS in question were consuming exhibits.
Muchiri declined consuming the exhibits, saying, “We do not do that sir.”
When asked if he consumed alcohol himself, the officer claimed he had flu symptoms that made him sound intoxicated.
“How will you supervise junior officers when you come to the CS’s event drunk?” Murkomen asked.
“I have the flu, not that I’m drunk, Sir. Yes, I’m very okay and sober,” Muchiri insisted.
The CS later directed Migori County Commander to investigate the matter.
During the forum, Murkomen highlighted that issues such as insecurities, community disputes and alcoholism were derailing developmental programs and he called for an urgent attention.
He hailed the Migori County for it’s role in building national development, due to strategic location, rich agricultural potential, and thriving fishing and mining sectors
