The vacancies arose following declarations by respective County Assembly Speakers for the following wards: Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu/Kapngโetuny (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Kariobangi North (Nairobi City), Kisa East (Kakamega), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Narok Town (Narok), Purko (Kajiado), Tembelio (Uasin Gishu), Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, and Ekerenyo (Nyamira), as well as Lake Zone and Nanaam (Turkana).
โFollowing the declaration of vacancies by the respective Speakers, the Commission gives notice that the by-elections shall be held on November 27, 2025,โ announced IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon, adding โAll participating parties and candidates are reminded to strictly adhere to the electoral code of conduct.โ
Political parties seeking to take part in the by-elections must submit the names and specimen signatures of their authorised representatives, as well as the names and dates of their party primaries, by Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Public officers intending to contest are required to resign from their positions within seven days of the notice. The IEBC will then publish the names and dates of party primaries in the gazette within a week of receiving them.
Independent candidates must not have been affiliated with any political party for at least three months before the election date. They are also required to submit their names and symbols for nomination purposes by September 17, 2025.
The registration of candidatesโboth from political parties and independentsโwill take place on Wednesday, October 8, and Thursday, October 9, 2025, at designated IEBC offices, between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Any nomination disputes must be resolved within 10 days of being filed, and no later than Friday, October 17, 2025.
The commission has further instructed political parties to settle all internal disputes before submitting their final list of nominees to the IEBC by Thursday, October 2, 2025.
