The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in collaboration with GIZ and Statistics Sweden, is set to launch the second edition of the IGAD Population and Migration Statistics Report an important step toward strengthening evidence-based migration and displacement governance in the region.
The report to be launched on September 4th, 2025 in Mombasa, Kenya, presents summary statistics for the period 2010 to 2022 and provides a comprehensive analysis of migration and displacement trends across the IGAD region.
IGAD Member States; Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda serve as origin, transit, and destination points for a wide range of migrants, including labour migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and stateless populations.
Building upon the foundation of the first report, the second edition highlights the dynamic interplay of demographic shifts, labour migration, forced displacement, and remittance flows, emphasizing the need for robust data governance to inform evidence-based policies and the regionโs critical role in global migration dynamics and its socio-economic implications.
The report will be launched by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the IGAD Secretariat, Mohamed Abdi Ware alongside high-level representatives from IGAD Member States and Partners.
