Businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi has raised concerns over President William Ruto’s financial rewards to the Harambee Stars players.

He questioned the source of the money and its legitimacy.

The rewards, which began with KSh 1 million per player for each match won and KSh 500,000 for a draw, have received mixed reactions.

In the latest development, President Ruto promised each player KSh 2.5 million for the team’s win against Zambia, bringing the total amount the players have earned within two weeks to KSh 5 million each.

During an interview on Spice FM, Wanjigi cast doubt on the money and its source.

He argued that it might be more about showbiz than actual financial commitment.

Wanjigi questioned whether the money was part of the national budget or if it came from Ruto’s personal account.

The politician further expressed doubts about the financial transparency behind the rewards.

Wanjigi also suggested that if the head of state had suddenly accumulated such a large amount of money since assuming office, it would raise suspicions.

As previously reported, Raila Odinga accompanied Ruto to the dressing room after Harambee Stars defeated Zambia on Sunday, August 17.

Harambee Stars Captain Abud Omar pleaded with the ODM leader to award them a token following their win, and Raila gladly promised each KSh 500,000 on top of the president’s pledge.
