Collins Kweyu, a Standard Group photojournalist, says his life is in danger after receiving threatening messages via WhatsApp in connection with a case involving a Migori-based judge.

According to the journalist, a person claiming to be an officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sent him a message warning him to leave the judge alone, saying he had โ€œtouched a live wire.โ€

The anonymous individual, who later identified himself as a fellow journalist, went on to tell Kweyu to prepare for the end of the world later that day.

โ€œDunia inaisha leo,โ€ the individual wrote.

When asked to explain, the person replied: โ€œMessage home.โ€

Kweyu says that when he woke up the following day, the same individual sent more texts mocking him for being a coward and downplaying the previous threats as a joke.

โ€œBro, kumbe unakuwanga muoga hivi?โ€ The individual then claimed he meant no harm and reiterated that he was actually a fellow journalist.

Fearing for his safety, Kweyu reported the matter to Central Police Station in Nairobi on Monday, where a formal statement was recorded.

The suspect has reportedly been summoned to appear before the police today to record his own statement.

On September 19, Kweyu was arrested in Nairobi following a complaint lodged against him by a Migori judge. He was detained at Central Police Station and released the following day on a free bond.
