Learners have been asked to embrace ICT learning as it is essential across the globe.

Joseph Ngaira Busiega who is the Chief of Staff in the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi while donating the laptops to Friends Malava Girls school where he is the new board member, encouraged the learners to seriously enroll for computer classes as it was marketable and on demand across the world.ย 

Busiega who donated the 20 laptops on behalf of the PCSโ€™s office said it had scouted the gadgets from the American institutions as part of them empowering the learners in matters information technology.

Being a new board member, Busiega was approached by the principal Rose Abuko that the school was not having enough computers to enable students learn computer and he approached Musalia who in turn through the principal secretary foreign affairs scouted for the gadgets.

Mudavadi, who is also the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs was recently added more responsibilities by President William Ruto including science, research and innovations that has seen him have five principal secretaries under him has a lot of external engagements and hence it was his initiative to scout for the laptops. ย 

He explained why science was key to the learners as the World was moving towards forward to the 4th industrial revolution hence need to empower learners to be as competitive as any other person out there.

โ€œInformation, communication technology (ICT) has been one of the girlโ€™s biggest needs and we have donated the first barge and we will also ensure that the gadgets are connected to the internet to allow online learning and we want these students to excel in technology as artificial intelligence (AI) was where the world was headed,โ€ he said.

He also hinted that the President William Rutoโ€™s administration was setting up call centres and digital hubs in each ward that will need young people with digital literacy to work there.

He encouraged the young people to seriously learn computer as there were more online jobs paying well where they could earn at the comfort of their homes using a laptop and internet connection.

โ€œInformation technology (IT), is the current equalizer and the likes of Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerbug are a living testimony of how internet has changed their lives and even in Kenya the government is digitizing all its services,โ€ he said.

He assured the management of the school that Dr. Musalia Mudavadi had the school in mind and will transform it to the next level.

The school principal Rose Abuko was all smiles upon receiving the laptops and stated that it was a big transformation to the institution.

โ€œWe are very grateful for the office of the prime cabinet secretary and our new board member for their noble gesture and their pledge to facelift the school, this will impact well on our academic and will improve our admission too,โ€ he added.

The school board of management chair Francis Murambi said the new board was vigorously working behind the scenes to revamp the school and thanked the prime cabinet secretary for his efforts to facelift the institution.

Other schools set to benefit include Malava and Lukala primary schools who will each receive 5 laptops respectively.
