Kismayo (HOL) โ€” The Jubbaland administration on Thursday condemned what it described as forced evictions and abuses against Somali citizens in Mogadishu, calling the incidents a violation of constitutional rights and human dignity.

In a press release, Jubbaland said a Somali father and mother were assaulted and stripped of their land in the capital on Wednesday. The statement described the episode as โ€œa tragic incident in which innocent Somali parents were beaten and had their property taken by force.โ€

The regional government also accused security forces of targeting members of the opposition Salvation Forum, who it said were visiting victims to provide medical care. Jubbaland alleged that Forum members โ€œwere subjected to an attempted assassinationโ€ despite being on site โ€œtrying to defuse tensions and deliver urgent humanitarian support.โ€

โ€œThese were acts of gross irresponsibility and serious misconduct,โ€ the statement read, adding that immediate accountability was needed for those who issued the orders, including officials accused of authorizing live fire against Forum members.

Jubbaland urged police commanders and officers in Banadir region to uphold their responsibilities by safeguarding civilians rather than harming them. โ€œThe unlawful use of armed force to seize land is intolerable and directly contravenes the constitution and the moral obligations of the security forces,โ€ the administration said.

The statement concluded by affirming that Jubbaland โ€œwill continue to demand accountability for all those responsible for inflicting harm, committing abuses, or suppressing the rights of Somali citizens.โ€ย
