Nairobi, Kenya โ€“ Friday, August 15, 2025 โ€“ Mediamax-owned K24 TV has officially clarified that it remains operational, debunking widespread social media claims that it has been shut down after 17 years on air.

The statement came after several posts circulated on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) alleging the stationโ€™s closure and job losses. K24 flagged the claims as fake news, urging Kenyans to verify information via its official website and verified social media pages.

Screenshots shared online suggested that the station had abruptly ceased operations, allegedly leaving hundreds of employees jobless. The rumours quickly spread, causing anxiety among media industry followers.

In response, K24 published a clear rebuttal, labelling the viral posts as false and misleading.

While dismissing the shutdown narrative, Mediamax Network Limited โ€” which owns K24 TV, Milele FM, and People Daily โ€” acknowledged it has issued a 30-day redundancy notice to employees.

In an internal memo, CEO Ken Ngaruiya explained that the restructuring aims to align operations with the rapidly changing media landscape, citing:

โ€œThis strategic reorganisation will enhance efficiency and competitiveness,โ€ Ngaruiya stated, adding that some positions will be abolished to optimise costs.

The announcement follows a wave of restructuring moves in Kenyaโ€™s media sector as outlets grapple with revenue drops, digital disruption, and changing audience behaviour.
