Popular K24 TV sports presenter Abuller Ahmed has officially announced his departure from Mediamax Network Limited, just hours after reports emerged that the company had laid off several journalists in a major restructuring move.
According to internal sources, the layoffs affected multiple departments, with the entire sports desk being scrapped โ a move that directly linked to Ahmedโs exit. The decision is part of Mediamaxโs ongoing redundancy exercise, which has impacted notable on-air personalities and behind-the-scenes staff.
Ahmed, who has been the face of EPL Maskani, a popular English Premier League review show on K24, took to Instagram to confirm the news.

His message, posted with the hashtag #FreeAgent, hinted that he may soon resurface on another platform.
The media industry in Kenya has been grappling with layoffs in recent months.
Companies have cited rising operational costs and declining advertising revenue. According to The Media Council of Kenya, over 300 journalists have lost their jobs in the last two years.
Mediamaxโs restructuring comes months after similar staff cuts at Nation Media Group and Standard Group.
