Kabeberi 7s: Mombasa RFC Seal Stunning Main Cup Quater Place to join KCB, Kabras, Oilers

Mombasa RFC managed to seal second place in pool A to reach the Main Cup quater finals at the ongoing Kabeberi 7s, where they will be facing Strathmore Leos.

Mombasa RFC pulled off a historic feat at the 2025 Kabeberi 7s by qualifying for their first Main Cup quarterfinal of the season.ย 

They joined tournament heavyweights Kabras RFC, KCB Rugby, Strathmore Leos, Daystar Falcons, Mwamba RFC, and Catholic Monks in the last eight after an action-packed opening day at the RFUEA Grounds, Nairobi.

Defending champions KCB Rugby once again showed their pedigree, finishing top of Pool A with a flawless record. They edged Nakuru RFC 21-15 in a thrilling decider, with tries from Mike Wekesa, Brian Wahinya, and Festus Shiasi proving decisive. Nakuruโ€™s late rally through Javan Otieno wasnโ€™t enough as missed conversions proved costly.

Mombasa RFC, meanwhile, held Mean Machine to a 10-10 draw in their final pool game, securing enough points to reach the last eight at Nakuruโ€™s expense.

Strathmore Leos produced a spirited comeback to top Pool B, overturning a 14-5 deficit to beat Kenya Harlequin 27-14. Shem Okolaโ€™s brace and second-half tries from Samuel Wafula and Victor Mola secured maximum points.

Mwamba RFC also advanced after a gritty 7-5 win over Impala RFC, with Joseph Odoyoโ€™s converted try proving the difference.

Daystar Falcons maintained their momentum with three straight wins, capping their pool campaign with a 25-10 victory over MMUST, led by a Patrick Odongo brace.

Catholic Monks returned to the quarters in style, overpowering Homeboyz RFC 29-10 after a dominant first half featuring braces from Dennis Mulinge and Zephenes Obwanga.

Kabras RFC underlined their title credentials by finishing unbeaten and without conceding a single point on day one. The Sugarmen closed out Pool D with a commanding 28-0 win over Menengai Oilers, with Mathias Osimbo bagging a brace.

Their defensive clean sheet makes them the standout contenders heading into the knockout stages.
