What started as a platform for sharing dance routines, memes, and funny videos has evolved into a powerful space where Kenyans can make a tangible difference in each other’s lives.

Beyond humour, TikTok has become a hub for social change, especially after the introduction of the live feature, which allows creators to interact with fans and raise awareness in real time.

One of the most notable ways Kenyans have used the platform is to rally support for fellow Kenyans in need or during times of mourning.

Here are five memorable instances when TikTokers came together to support their own:

The latest instance occurred on Sunday, September 28, when a group of TikTok creators made their way to Chinga village in Othaya to support Kaluma Boy, who has been struggling to care for his sick father.

Kaluma Boy had been sharing videos of the daily care he provided after his father suffered a stroke in August 2024.

After his appeal went public, a paybill was quickly set up, attracting donations from fans, fellow TikTokers, and even celebrities.

On the day of the visit, hundreds of creators showed up at his home, bringing gifts and offering their support.

The outpouring of love included brand deals, massive donations, and plans to construct a new house for his family, moving them from their humble wooden home.

The late Brian Chira was a beloved TikToker whose life was tragically cut short following an accident.

After his passing, the TikTok community came together to raise millions for a dignified send-off.

Their support went beyond the funeral as TikTokers also contributed to buying land and building a house for Chira’s grandmother, Esther Njeri.

The effort reportedly left her with about KSh 7 million after all expenses.

Just months after Chira’s death, TikToker Tabitha Gatwiri also passed away in 2024.

She was found dead in her home, with a pathological report confirming suffocation as the cause of death.

Once again, TikTokers led fundraising efforts to support her family, creating a paybill that allowed Kenyans to contribute.

Her funeral saw many TikTokers in attendance, paying tribute to one of their own.

Milly wa Doc, another popular TikToker, passed away in 2025, months after finding love again following a heartbreak.

She was famed for documenting her relationship with Doc until they separated.

Her story moved many on the platform after she narrated the ordeals she went through in the relationship.

Peter Kio, a popular TikToker, led a fundraising campaign following a proposed KSh 2.5 million budget for her funeral.

Though the budget sparked debate, the initiative drew support from the TikTok community, who also considered building a house for Milly’s children.

Even after the burial, a popular figure offered one of her children a job.

TikTok has also been a platform for supporting Kenyans facing personal struggles.

Gospel singer Triza Njeri, first wife to Karangu Muraya, shared her heartbreak on the platform after her husband took a second wife.

Her story resonated with Kenyans on TikTok, who contributed KSh 1 million to empower her.

Additional donations included shoes, clothes, a Samsung Galaxy S25 phone, and even support for a trip to Dubai to help her start afresh.

After the charity event where Kaluma Boy landed several brand deals primarily based in Nairobi, a popular female TikToker known as Bantu Girl extended an offer for him to stay at her home in the city and plan his finances.

In a video, she revealed that she has an extra room available and highlighted that her residence is close to the CBD, where most of the businesses are.

Her offer was met with mixed reactions as some Kenyans questioned whether she had pure intentions.
