As the East Africa Secondary School Games draw near, Kamusinga Girls High School has vowed to reclaim Kenyaโ€™s national handball title, which they last won in 2019โ€”and no other school has held it since.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kamusingaโ€™s coach, Godfrey Simiyu, said the team has undergone excellent preparations and is ready for the tournament.

Last year, Kamusinga were knocked out in the semi-finals and finished fourth, but Coach Simiyu is confident they will go further this time, noting that most of the players from last yearโ€™s squad are still in the team and now have valuable experience.

โ€œWe have been preparing for these games since the nationals. The team that reached the semi-finals in Mbale, Uganda last year is still intact. We only lost one player who finished Form Four,โ€ Simiyu said.

Kamusinga has been drawn in Pool Bโ€”widely regarded as the toughest groupโ€”alongside Ugandaโ€™s Mbogo and Gombe, Kenyaโ€™s Kadika Girls , Tanzaniaโ€™s Maweni, and Rwandaโ€™s ES Nyamgabe.

The games will officially kick off on August 15, following the opening ceremony on August 14 in Kakamega County.
