The Dala 7s tournament is headed for a dramatic finish as top teams KCB Rugby and Strathmore Leos prepare for a title-deciding quarterfinal.ย 

KCB has been in great form, winning all their pool matches, and is now just one victory away from winning the overall circuit championship.ย 

The Leos, however, are determined to keep their hopes alive, even though they face a tough challenge.ย 

This crucial match, along with other exciting quarterfinals, will not only crown the Dala 7s champion but also determine the best team in the entire 2025 National Sevens Circuit.

The tension is high as the top two teams in the league prepare to face off.ย 

KCB Rugby has been in dominant form, cruising through their pool stage with three commanding wins.ย 

They defeated Homeboyz RFC 36-12, Embu RFC 36-0, and Mwamba RFC 33-5, a performance interim coach Andrew Amonde believes puts them in a strong position.ย 

โ€œHopefully, we get to meet Strathmore so we can seal the competition in advance,โ€ Amonde stated, acknowledging the pressure to get the job done in the quarters.

Strathmore Leos, meanwhile, is determined to keep their championship dreams alive.ย 

Despite a loss to Menengai Oilers, they earned their quarterfinal spot with impressive shutout victories over Impala RFC (29-0) and Kisumu RFC (36-0).ย 

Acting captain Barnabas Owuor highlighted the teamโ€™s strong mentality, noting that their goal was simply to make it to the knockout stage.ย 

For the Leos to win the circuit title, they must not only defeat KCB but also go on to win the entire Dala 7s tournament, a huge task considering KCBโ€™s recent form.

The first day of the Dala 7s provided several exciting matches.

In Pool A, Kabras Sugar, the defending champions of this particular tournament, went undefeated.

They beat Nakuru RFC 21-14 and edged out Catholic Monks 19-14.

Despite two early losses, Nakuru RFC made a comeback with a win over MMUST to secure their place in the quarters.

Daystar Falcons continued their strong season by topping Pool B, beating both Kenya Harlequins and Nondescripts on their way to an unbeaten run.

Meanwhile, Menengai Oilers were in destructive form, with crushing wins of 50-0 and 48-0 over Kisumu and Impala, respectively, before a decisive 24-7 victory over Strathmore Leos to win their group.

Coach Lawi Buyachi attributed the teamโ€™s motivation to their early exit at the Kabeberi 7s tournament.

The Dala 7s is not just about the circuit title; itโ€™s a crucial event for the future of rugby in Kenya.

The tournament, with a significant sponsorship from Tusker, serves as a breeding ground for new talent for the national teams, Shujaa and the Lionesses.

With the country aiming to qualify for the HSBC World Sevens Series in 2026, performances at this tournament are vital for national team selection.ย 

The chairman of Kisumu RFC, Gabriel Ouma, noted the huge fan support for the event, calling it โ€œone of the most competitive and colorful tournaments.โ€

As the tournament moves into its final day, the stakes are incredibly high.ย 

Sundayโ€™s quarterfinals will see Kabras Sugar take on Nondescripts, Daystar Falcons face Nakuru, KCB battle Leos, and Mwamba play against Menengai Oilers.ย 

The KCB-Leos clash, set for 11:20 AM, is expected to be the defining moment, deciding not only a spot in the semifinals but also the fate of the entire 2025 National Sevens Circuit championship.
