Kenyaโ€™s gospel music community is in mourning following the sudden death of veteran singer Regina Muthoni. The celebrated artiste, known for hits such as Yesu Ulishinda and Ngai Nimwaro, was found lifeless at her home in Githurai on Thursday, October 2.

Music producer Ephantus Safari broke the news, extending condolences to her family and the wider music community. He described Muthoni as a legendary gospel musician whose music continues to minister to people even after her passing. Safari said, โ€œWe celebrate her life, her ministry through music, and the hope she carried in Christ. Our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans, and the music community at large. May her soul rest in eternal peace.โ€

Muthoniโ€™s body was discovered by a close friend who shared their last interactions. She recalled meeting Muthoni on Tuesday for a long conversation where the singer offered advice about marriage. On Thursday, when she went to deliver a requested item, she found Muthoni unresponsive. โ€œSince she could not get up, I would just open the door. I got in and found her sleeping. I touched her body and found that she was cold,โ€ the friend recalled. Her body was taken to the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital mortuary, where family and friends confirmed her passing.

Her son, Anthony Mwangi, expressed deep grief over the loss of his mother. Fans and fellow musicians took to social media to honor her legacy. Shiksha Rollins remembered performing alongside Muthoni during the Madaraka celebrations in Embu in 2023, while others shared personal encounters, highlighting the impact of her ministry. Comments included heartfelt messages such as โ€œRest in peace, mumโ€ and prayers for Godโ€™s remembrance.

Regina Muthoniโ€™s passing has left a void in Kenyaโ€™s gospel scene. Her music, celebrated for inspiring faith and hope, will continue to influence both fans and upcoming gospel artists. The sudden nature of her death has sparked widespread grief and reflection on the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
