The much-anticipated FKF Super Cup clash between newly crowned league champions Kenya Police FC and FKF Cup winners Nairobi United FC has been cancelled following a venue dispute.

The curtain raiser to the 2025/26 season was originally slated for Sunday at Dandora Stadium, but Police FC declined to honour the fixture, citing safety concerns and the risk of injuries ahead of their crucial CAF Champions League assignment next week.

Organisers later shifted the match to Police Sacco Grounds, but Nairobi United insisted on a neutral venue. However, with Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani Stadium unavailable on the date, organisers were left with no alternative but to call off the fixture.

In a post, Nairobi United confirmed, “Our anticipated match for the FKF Super Cup against Police FC has been called off. We respect the decision and wish our competitors the best in their preparations. We’re turning our energy to our own training.”

Kenya Police echoed similar sentiments, noting, “The FKF Super Cup match has been cancelled. This decision was made to allow the clubs to prepare adequately for their upcoming crucial CAF assignments. The team now shifts its full focus with preparations already underway.”

The cancellation comes as both sides gear up for historic continental campaigns.

Kenya Police FC are set to make their debut in the CAF Champions League against Mogadishu City Club of Somalia in the first preliminary round.

The law enforcers, who clinched their maiden Kenya Premier League title last season with 65 points, dethroning Gor Mahia, will host the first leg in Nairobi between September 19–21 before travelling for the return leg on September 26–28.

Should they progress, they will face either Jamus FC of South Sudan or Sudanese giants Al Hilal for a place in the lucrative group stage.

This will be the Police’s second successive appearance in CAF interclub competitions after featuring in last season’s Confederation Cup, where they bowed out in the second preliminary round to Egypt’s Zamalek.

Nairobi United, meanwhile, will mark their CAF Confederation Cup debut against Uganda’s National Enterprise Corporation FC (NEC).

The first leg is set for September 19–21 in Kampala, with the return leg scheduled for Nairobi between September 26–28. United qualified after lifting the 2024/25 FKF Cup with a dramatic 2-1 win over Gor Mahia in the final.

Victory over NEC would set up a second preliminary round tie against either Sudan’s Al Ahli Madani or Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive du Sahel.
