Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is an alumnus of several prestigious schools in the country, including St Mary’s School, one of the most preferred schools for children of influential Kenyans.

Located in Nairobi, off James Gichuru Road, St. Mary’s School has produced individuals who have excelled in various sectors, including politics, business, and medicine, among other fields.

Uhuru Kenyatta

Kenya’s former president Uhuru Kenyatta is a proud alumnus of St. Mary’s School, where he completed his A levels.

In his high school days, he was involved in co-curricular activities such as Rugby. He interacted with other students, some of whom ended up being influential persons in different sectors.

Jimmy Kibaki

Jimmy Kibaki is the son of Kenya’s second president, the late Mwai Kibaki. Jimmy sat in the same class with Uhuru Kenyatta.

After school, the duo took different paths with Jimmy embracing business, while Uhuru moved into politics.

Jimmy Kibaki has reportedly made huge investments in the real estate industry and also oversees the multi-billion estate left behind by his late father.

Jimmi Wanjigi

Jimmi Wanjigi, a political strategist, is among the wealthiest businesspeople in Kenya. He serves as the CEO of Kwacha Group of Companies, a privately owned family office with investments spanning multiple sectors including agribusiness, financial services, industrials, and real estate.

Wanjigi, an alumnus of St. Mary’s School, was born into a family with strong ties to Kenyan politics.

His father, James Maina Wanjigi, was a prominent figure, serving as the Kamukunji Member of Parliament and as a Cabinet Minister during President Jomo Kenyatta’s administration.

Bruce Odhiambo

The late Bruce Odhiambo was not only Uhuru’s schoolmate at St. Mary’s but also a friend who immensely contributed to the success of his political career.

The respected music producer was part of the team that played a key role in Uhuru’s 2013 presidential bid having been among the founders of The National Alliance (TNA) party which the former president used to ascend to power.

During President Uhuru’s first term, he appointed Odhiambo to be the Chairman of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund board, a position he held until he resigned in March 2016.

After resigning, he went back to music production at his studio dubbed Johari Clef audio-visual production where he served until he succumbed to heart-related complications in January 2019.

Bruce had worked with various popular musicians, including Redsan, Kanji Mbugua, Kayamba Africa, Les Wanyika, Kofi Olomide, and Awilo Longomba, among others.

Gideon Moi

Gideon Moi is the former senator for Baringo County and the Chairman of the KANU Party. He is the last-born child of Kenya’s second President Daniel Arap Moi.

The former senator completed his high school education at St. Mary’s School. After briefly exploring other ventures, Gideon entered politics, securing his father’s parliamentary seat in the 2002 general election.

However, he lost the Baringo Central MP’s seat in 2007 before being elected Baringo Senator. In in the 2022 General Election, he hoped to run for presidency but later dropped his bid and supported Azimio la Umoja One Kenya flagbearer Raila Odinga.
