Kenyan Officer Who Went Missing In Haiti Confirmed Dead: NPS

Benedict Kabiru, a Kenyan police officer deployed to Haiti under the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), has been confirmed dead, days after going missing during an ambush.

Kabiru, who disappeared on March 25 while on duty along the Carrefour Paye-Savien supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of Haitiโ€™s Artibonite Department, had initially been reported missing in action.ย 

The National Police Service (NPS) announced on Thursday, March 26, that it has since received confirmation of the officerโ€™s death and has already informed the family.

“On 26th March 2025, the National Police Service was notified that a Kenyan police officer serving with the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti was missing in action.ย The officer had been reported missing while on duty the previous day, 25th March 2025, following an ambush on the Carrefour Paye-Savien main supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of the Artibonite Department.

“Since then, the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP), has been conducting a meticulous search and rescue operation to locate the missing officer.ย In a tragic turn of events, the National Police Service (NPS) received information regarding the death of the missing police officer, and the family has been notified,” stated NPS in part.

The NPS extended its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer Kabiru and assured them of its unwavering and continued support during this time of profound sorrow.

The NPS assured Kenyans that it remains committed to ensuring the safety of its officers deployed abroad, adding that the mission in Haiti will continue in line with international law.

“Meanwhile, the MSSM continues to work in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP) on this matter and will provide further updates as the situation develops,” added the statement.
