Kenyan football is celebrating a major milestone as talented striker Ryan Wesley Ogam, 21, has completed a move from Tusker FC to Austria’s top league with Wolfsberger AC. 

Ogam’s journey from a local hero to a European prospect was fueled by a remarkable season in which he scored 15 goals, and his standout performance at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, where he scored against strong teams like Morocco. 

This transfer is not only a fantastic opportunity for him to develop his skills but also a sign of growing recognition for Kenyan players on the international stage.

Ogam’s rise has been impressive, especially since his move from a defensive midfield position to a striker role at Tusker FC. 

Under the guidance of coach Charles Okere, the young player thrived, scoring 15 goals in just 17 league games last season. 

This impressive form continued into the CHAN 2024 tournament, where he was one of Kenya’s key players, netting two crucial goals that helped the national team reach the quarterfinals. 

His performances, including a match-winning goal against Morocco, were what ultimately sealed his move to Austria.

Wolfsberger AC’s president, Dietmar Riegler, confirmed the signing and praised Ogam’s talent and potential. 

In a statement, Riegler noted, “We watched Ryan during the last tournament and were impressed by his talent. We have a successful history with young talent from Africa and are delighted to sign the first Kenyan footballer for WAC.” 

The club sees Ogam as a key addition to their attack and will integrate him into the squad after the current international break.
