Kenyan songstress Julliet Miriam Ayub, popularly known as Jovial, has announced that she is taking an indefinite break from social media to focus on her recovery. The decision comes just days after she and her partner, Mike, welcomed their newborn son.

In a candid update shared on her Instagram page, the “Jeraha” hitmaker revealed that she endured a prolonged and “traumatic” childbirth experience. She detailed a grueling eight-hour labor that saw her dilate to nine centimeters before she ultimately had to undergo a Caesarean section. Jovial described the ordeal as both physically and emotionally draining, leaving her feeling “completely broken” and in need of time to heal away from the public eye.

“My body is completely broken, broken into small pieces, and I don’t know how to put the pieces back,” she wrote, adding that she is still “traumatised.”

While assuring her fans that she still plans to release new music, she emphasized her need to take a quiet and calm healing journey. She concluded by thanking her supporters for their love and understanding during this period.

The childbirth follows a challenging pregnancy journey that Jovial had been open about with her fans. Earlier this year, she shared the struggles of her first trimester, which included severe fatigue, nausea, and strong aversions to smells and tastes. In a post that resonated with many expectant mothers, she revealed that the experience was so overwhelming that she once went a week without showering and had to find alternatives like salt and charcoal powder to brush her teeth. She had reminded her fans that every pregnancy is different and urged women to be kind to themselves.

Jovial officially announced the birth of her son on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, sharing a photo of his tiny hand and expressing gratitude for her “perfect” newborn. Her decision to step back from the public eye is a move to prioritize her mental and physical well-being as she navigates this new chapter of motherhood.
