A squad of 29 players has jetted out of the country to represent Kenya in this yearโ€™s International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Handgun World Shoot Championship in Matlosana, South Africa.

The Championship will be the highest-level V competition on the IPSC match calendar.

It is set to take place between Thursday, September 11, and September 28 for a period of 17 days.

IPSC Kenya regional director Frank Ambundo stated that the competition will bring together at least 1,800 shooters from over 50 countries.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 10, Ambundo said the participants will be showcasing the highest level of discipline, precision, speed, and accuracy in practical discipline and short-gun shooting.

ย โ€œLet us stand and support Team Kenya as they fly our flag high on the world stage,โ€ said Ambundo.

Ambundo added that the IPSC Regional Directorate is mandated to nurture, train, and select technically proficient and competent competitors as well as certified match officials to represent Kenya on the global stage.

He emphasized that this is critical in preparing teams for major international events, including the prestigious IPSC World Shoot.

The event is held every three years and recognized as the pinnacle of competitive practical shooting worldwide.

โ€œThe Kenyan team will use the tournament to showcase Kenyaโ€™s growing talent in the shooting sport,โ€ he added.

The IPSC Handgun World Shoot is the highest-level handgun match within the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), which consists of several days and at least 30 separate courses of fire.

In 1975, the first IPSC World Shoot was held in Zurich, and the two following were held with one-year intervals.

After 1977, the World Shoots were held at two-year intervals until 1983, when the schedule was changed to the three-year intervals used today.ย

The teamโ€™s departure comes after the Kenyan team last week participated in the IPSC Handgun Pre-World Shoot competition held at Bamburi Rifle Club (BRC) in Mombasa.

The team was part of the 40 marksmen and marks women who participated in the competition.

Speaking after the tournament, Ambundo said the event served as the official preparatory platform for the Kenyan National Shooting Team as they gear up for the forthcoming World Handgun Championship.

โ€œIt is also not only about preparing Team Kenya for international competition, but also about showcasing Kenyaโ€™s growing talent in shooting sports,โ€ he said.
