Kenyans react as auditor says State House spent KSh 3.6b for travel in 42 days: “Daylight robbery”
Earlier, World Travel Consultant Mary Ndaranga shared tips on how to travel and vacation on budget in Kenya.
According to Ndaranga, the most crucial step to traveling on a budget in Kenya is planning early, as those who book their Christmas holidays between January and March end up paying significantly less than last-minute travelers.
She explained that hotels are usually filled up to 75% capacity closer to December, the holidays, leaving no room for discounts, while early bookings can attract up to 20% off flights and hotel stays.
Ndaranga also recommended using Airbnb or cottages instead of hotels, reducing activities to fit oneโs budget, and considering less popular destinations such as Kisumu, Mt Kenya, or the western region, which are often more affordable.
She further advised that traveling in groups or families can cut costs on transport and accommodation.
Bonfire Adventures CEO Simon Kabu echoed these sentiments, adding that the best time to travel affordably is during off-peak seasons such as March to June and October to early December.
He said that during these off-peak periods, services are available at normal rates as prices rise three to five times higher during peak seasons.
