Football fans hoping to attend Harambee Starsโ World Cup qualifying matches have been cautioned about fake ticketing websites targeting unsuspecting supporters.
On Wednesday, September 3, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) warned that fraudsters have set up bogus platforms disguised as official ticket vendors, even listing fake till numbers.
FKF stressed that tickets are only available through the official Tikiti Platform https://www.tikiti.co.ke, which does not require manual entry of paybill details. Fans can also buy tickets offline using the USSD codeย *519*55#.
Tickets for the Kenya vs Gambia game, slated for Friday, September 5, at 4:00 PM, can be accessed atย https://tikiti.co.ke/e/kenya-vs-gambia.
On the other hand, tickets for the Kenya vs Seychelles game scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, at 4:00 PM can be accessed atย https://tikiti.co.ke/e/kenya-vs-seychelles.
This isnโt the first incident of fake ticketing websites targeting Kenyan fans.ย During the CHAN 2024 tournament, a fraudulent site surfaced online, claiming to sell tickets for the quarter-final between Kenya and Madagascar.
The site impersonated chan.mookh.comโthe official ticket distributorโusing a nearly identical domain to trick buyers.
Fans who overlook the slight variation in the web address risk being duped. Social media users have since raised the alarm, warning supporters to steer clear of the clone site.
The alert comes as excitement builds for Kenyaโs fixtures, following the successful African Nations Championship (CHAN) co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.ย
Kenya, in particular, won praise from CAF after near-capacity crowds filled Kasarani Stadium throughout the tournament.
Scammers have since attempted to exploit the surge in interest ahead of Kenyaโs return to action against Gambia on September 5 at Kasarani, followed by a clash with Seychelles at the same venue on September 9.
Nyayo Stadium will also host a Group F fixture between Gambia and Burundi on the night of September 10, scheduled for 10 p.m. under floodlights.
Kenya will later wrap up their group stage campaign with away ties against Burundi on October 6 and the Ivory Coast on October 13.
By Wednesday afternoon, regular Ksh300 tickets for the KenyaโGambia match had already sold out, leaving only silver (Ksh500), gold (Ksh1,000), and VIP (Ksh2,000) options available.
