The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) says it on course to complete 29 power transmission lines across the country by 2028.

The power company says the projects in the pipeline will ensure reliable and stable electricity in order to support agro-industrial zones, irrigation schemes and post-harvest storage.

As of May this year, KETRACO says it has completed 43 transmission lines across the country which has supportedย  the countryโ€™s food security efforts, green growth and regional integration.

โ€œClimate-smart agriculture requires smart power. We are not just building transmission lines, we are energizing Kenyaโ€™s transformation,โ€ said Kipkemoi Kibias, KETRACO Acting Managing Director.

During the ongoing Mombasa International Show 2025 organized by Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK), the company said it has built 6,015 kilometers of high-voltage circuit lines, 46 substations and 33 bay extensions, providing a combined transformation capacity of 6,487 MVA.

Kibias said the backbone infrastructure is already powering irrigation schemes, food processing hubs and cold chain facilities, enabling farmers and industries to adapt to climate change.

โ€œKenya is not on the brink of a crisis; we are on the edge of a breakthrough. KETRACO is expanding capacity, building resilience and preparing the grid for a high-growth future,โ€ added Kibias.

Regionally the company is advancing interconnectors that position Kenya as a hub for East African power trade.

The Projects include the 500kV Eastern Electricity Highway with Ethiopia, the 400kV Kenyaโ€“Tanzania line, and the 400kV LessosTororo link with Uganda.
