Kisii University students have asked the government to widen or construct pedestrian paths on the Mwembe-Kisii Campus junction to ease traffic that is caused by their big number in the institution.
The learners who were led by Reuben Nyanumba, Grace Moraa, Kevin Mokua and Peter Maroko asked the boda boda riders to be more careful and reduce the speed when using the road to avoid many accidents that they cause adding that they have maimed many students and stalled completion of studies on some of them.
โIf the situation continues this way we might be forced to go to the streets to riot and shout to the government to come to our attention.โ Said Maroko.
The students rsaid that they raised the same concern towards the end of last year but the authorities have not responded to their cry and accused them of turning a deaf ear to this urgent call.
The students suggested to the Government to consider constructing a fly over connecting the University to Nwembe -Ogembo road near through Nyaura Primary school as one a solution to ease the traffic congestion.
The students further said that they fear for their security especially in the evening hours and asked the Kisii County Governor Arati to consider erecting security lightsย from behind Nyamage Primary School through Elknah Ongโesa Mini- Measeum to Manoti Hostel for their safety.
Education News tried to reach the Universityโs Vice Chancellor Prof Nathan Ogechi for a comment on the matter but he could not be reached on phone.
