The African proverb โIt takes a whole village to raise a childโ seems to have lost its place in todayโs society.

In many urban areas, the responsibility of raising and disciplining children has become almost exclusively a parentโs role, with little to no intervention from others, not even teachers.
This shift was evident in Kisumu when a mother confronted a security guard for allegedly assaulting her daughter.
Devastated, the woman shared a video on TikTok of her altercation with the guard, questioning why she thought she had the right to hit her child.

She said the better approach would have been to call her if the child was being disrespectful or making mistakes, rather than punishing her.
The guard justified her actions by stating that another tenant, a lawyer, had complained to her earlier, asking why she allowed children in the estate to play and spoil things.

She added that the children had even broken one of the tenantsโ windows, but she had not taken any action at the time.

The furious mother said the open area was specifically designated for children to play, and that was their right.
She recalled a time when the guard sent her children away from the play area without confronting her directly.
